The kitchen is the heart of the home, and a kitchen remodeling project is one of the most dramatic, as well as most expensive, projects that you can undertake in your home. Before you begin a kitchen remodeling job, it is important to plan the project from beginning to end. If you neglect this step, it is easy to experience price overruns as well as unexpected structural problems.

Establish a Budget and Design the Space

The most important part of the entire project is to establish a budget. Too often, people decide what they want first, and establish a budget around that. By establishing a budget first, you can choose what you must have, what you would like and what you would settle with in your new kitchen. Everyone’s priorities are different, as is their budget, and there is no right or wrong answer. For some, a natural stone counter top is a priority, while others want to extend the size of the room. Establishing a firm budget and discussing it honestly with your contractor keeps you both on the same page for the duration of the project.

Once you have established a budget, take out some paper and sketch your ideas. Depending on your budget, your contractor, an architect, or the salesman at the local lumber store can give you computer generated plans, but prior to that, sketch your ideas, moving things around, until you are generally happy with your plan.

Empty the Area

Once you have settled on a design, empty everything out of the kitchen. This is a good time to reorganize, getting rid of the small appliances and serving dishes that you never use, as well as cleaning out those drawers and cabinets that inevitably become catch-alls for things without a home.

Complete any Structural Changes

The actual construction starts with any significant structural changes. These may include anything from moving walls, to adding or moving windows or doors. Even if you plan on doing much of the remodeling work on your own, you may consider using a professional contractor for this portion of the job.

Make Necessary Plumbing and Electrical Changes

This is another part of the job that should be completed by a licensed professional. In fact, depending on where you live, you may be required by law to have a professional make any changes to the electrical or plumbing systems in your home. Some changes, such as adding can lights or running an instant hot water tap are relatively straightforward, while others, such as adding wiring for a dishwasher, or running a gas line for a stove, can affect the entire home if not done properly.

This is the time to order cabinets, flooring and your counter top as well as any new appliances you will be purchasing. This ensures that you will have all of your finishing materials ready for installation when the major remodeling work is completed.

Install Flooring and Cabinets

Once you are finished with the major changes, it is time to begin the more exciting finish work. Your new floor and cabinets are ready to be installed. Cabinet installation is best left to professionals, but a do-it-yourselfer can easily install many types of flooring, including hardwood, laminate and tile, on their own. This is a good way to save a little money on your remodel.

Complete Finish Plumbing Work and Paint

The final step in a kitchen renovation is the finish plumbing work and painting. The finish plumbing includes installing the dishwasher as well as the sink and any additional water lines, such as hooking up the refrigerator water line and a hot water tap. Painting is the last step in the kitchen remodeling project. It is much easier to select paint for your new kitchen after the new cabinets, counter top and flooring is in. The look of your kitchen can change so much, even during a minor remodel, that you may not be happy with your paint if you make the selection too early.

Moderation is Okay

While this article explains all of the details that are included in a complete kitchen remodel, it is possible to update your kitchen by completing a less extensive remodeling project. A fresh coat of paint, new appliances or even an updated counter top can increase the appeal of your kitchen and make it a more pleasant place to congregate.

Many of us want to improve our homes, but simply don’t know how. Some know that there’s not enough room for all the kids, yet haven’t figured out how to make more room.

Others yet see the need to reduce monthly electrical bills, but don’t have any practical idea where to start. Another example is people who want to spruce up their homes for sale, but don’t have sufficient background or skills to get started.

Knowing you want to improve your home and finally getting started are two very different things. If you’re looking for easy home improvement solutions that are doable, keep reading for some great tips on ways to do so.

First, identify the problem areas. If your kitchen is sorely out-of-date, then you’ll want this to be your focus area. It could be a simple fix like retitling the floors, painting the walls and bringing in new appliances.
Or, you may prefer to do a full kitchen renovation and install contemporary counter tops and cabinetry. Depending on the scale of your project and your own skill limits, hiring an experienced contractor could turn out to be your best option.

While you’re probably capable of painting the kitchen and buying a new stove, you may want a plumber to install a new sink, an electrician to update the wiring or a tile installer to position them on your new counter-tops. Before hiring any home improvement professional, always check their references and ask to see a photo portfolio of their work.

Next, look for quick fixes. Sometimes all a home needs is a little freshening and a bit of “love” to bring it up-to-date. If you’re prepping a home for sale or just want to spruce it up, try adding a fresh coat of paint or updating the fixtures. Simple fixes like adding new window treatments or having the carpets professionally cleaned can take your home from sad and tired to new and clean in just a few hours.

Quick fixes shouldn’t be used to mask major problems, but they are a great way to add value to your home without breaking the bank. For example, installing new faucets in your bathroom sink and tub can modernize a bathroom instantly and make it seem fresh and new.

Start looking for design ideas. Buy a few magazines, browse some relevant web sites and tune into popular home improvement television shows. Before you know it, you’ll be brimming with home improvement inspiration.
Once you determine the work you would like to do, develop a full plan for your project. For example, prior to making that drive to the home hardware store, put together a folder with all your measurements and a complete list of everything you intend to buy, right down to the last nail.

People get excited about projects and don’t want to get right to it instead of “wasting” time planning. However, by planning you’ll make fewer mistakes, be less likely to waste materials and time, and much more likely to stay on budget. In the end, you’ll be glad you did!

Theft of valuables from home due to carelessness is very common. Never take home security for granted. If you make an effort to be secure, you will be protecting your family and your valuables much better.
Tips To Prevent Burglaries
Securing doors and windows is extremely important. Many burglaries occur as vandals had easy access to the garage door where they worked unnoticed to gain entry into the house. Never leave your house, even for just a few minutes, without locking all doors and windows. Use dead bolts to improve home security. A pet entrance is not advisable. Have wide angled viewer installed in the main door to check who is at the door.
Do not leave an extra pair of keys hidden outside your house; instead, leave them with a neighbor or friend.
Make sure all doors and windows, which are not within your view, are locked when you are at home.
Fuse boxes and power sources have to be secured, to make it impossible for criminals to tamper with them.
Have a good burglar alarm installed.
Make sure you periodically check all home security systems and have them serviced regularly.
Keep your garden trimmed ensuring an unobstructed view of your house from the road or your neighbors.
If you have to deal with windows accessible from the fire escape be sure to check that the windows are hardy, tamper proof, and secure.
Never leave a message in your answering machine, indicating you are away.
Do not have predictable habits change your routine often.
Get your self a sturdy safe to lock up all valuables and important documents.
Keep your home insurance up to date.
Change all locks if you just moved into the house.
Get a good private home security monitoring system to enhance home security.
Do not leave ladders and other tools lying that can be used by vandals to gain entry into your home.
Join a neighborhood watch program.
Trim and maintain your garden, trees should not be used by criminals to gain entry into the upper floors of your home. Be sure that the branches are cut securing your home.
In the event you lose a key, change the tumblers of all locks.
It will be a great deterrent if you had a guard dog.
Make sure your house number is lit and clearly visible to facilitate people who need to get to your home in hurry find your home easily.
Secure skylights and roof taking precaution to prevent unauthorized entry through them.
If the above-mentioned basic home security measures are carefully followed, securing your home and sleeping peacefully will not be an issue any longer.

Maintaining a profitable home business is a big challenge. The idea of earning an income from the comforts of your own home is an attractive one. However many overlook the necessary discipline needed to run a profit generating home business. The comfort and familiar settings of home make this type of business attractive but also presents obstacles. If you want to achieve success while working from home you’ll need to establish certain parameters. A distinction between leisure time activities and work related responsibilities will need to be identified. Here are 5 tips you’ll need to apply in order for your home based business to achieve success:Tip #1 – Establish Work HoursWhen working from home you’ll immediately want to establish the time you’ll need to devote to your business and then adhere to this schedule. As easy as this may seem initially you’ll need to aware of the temptation of getting a late start and then finishing early. Remember that nothing gets done unless YOU do it. When you start to cheat on your work hours here you are really just cheating yourself by reducing your income due to a loss in productivity. Time wasting activities you’ll want to ‘actively’ avoid during work hours are: a) Friends visitingb) Personal phone callsc) Neighborsd) Personal errandse) Family disturbances unless they’re emergenciesTip #2 – Clearly Define Your Work SpaceDepending upon the type of work you’re doing you’ll need to set up an office or shop completely dedicated to your work. It would be best to isolate or partition the area from the normal living areas of the home. This will better enable you to maintain a ‘working frame of mind’ while also minimizing any instances of disruptions or disturbances.A dedicated work space will also help you stay better organized.Tip #3 – Avoid Any Type of Home EntertainmentLike most homes I’m sure yours is equipped with TV’s, stereos, and other such entertainment devices. Well when you’re working battle the temptation to take periodic breaks to view the tube or listening to some ‘relaxing’ music. These will just siphon your time away from work either increasing your workload later or perhaps keeping you from finishing a task at all.Tip #4 – No SurfingMany home based businesses entail the use of a computer. High technology like this enables a home business to be more efficient and productive. On the downside however with the ability to surf the internet right there at your fingertips lays the potential for lost time and productivity. Unless the need arises to do some work related research your computer should only be used to increase and not decrease your productiveness during your normal working hours. Tip #5 – Your Email Can WaitAgain like we’ve mentioned about surfing (above) your only need to access this during work hours should be limited to work related issues. In fact it is recommended you establish a separate work related email address and develop the habit of checking your email just twice a day to better manage your time. As you can see managing a profitable home business does require discipline on your part. The temptation of the surrounding comforts of home are the main attraction of any home based business. Although we need to recognize these attractions can easily turn into non-productive distractions if we are not careful. With the proper restraint however there is no reason the riches and rewards of a successful home based business can’t be yours!

There are a lot of choices to buy furniture in Singapore. Apart from the usual modern furniture, you can buy ready-made or custom-made rattan and oriental furniture. If you decide to buy Oriental furniture, be aware that their size and design may not be suitable once you are repatriated. A nice antique Chinese bed is not only difficult to transport but may look awkward in your living room at home in London, as nothing else will fit in! Besides, this furniture is made for use in a different climate and may shrink, expand and crack. Also, before shipping back your furniture you should have it fumigated!

Antiques and Reproductions

Before you start, you need to decide if you want to decorate your home, take back some memories or seriously collect specific items as an investment into the future. The term antique is used for a variety of items offered and you need to inform yourself first about the host and home countries’ regulations and custom requirements such as import and export restrictions on religious artifacts (e.g. Buddha statues).

Custom-Made Furniture

To avoid confusion and disappointment, provide a sample or a photograph and specify your requirements in writing:

Oriental Furniture

There are many different types depending on the country of origin, style or material used. Furniture made in India or Indonesia is often produced in small villages and come with a native touch rather than being in an immaculate condition, which is very exotic. Chinese furniture come in rosewood, camphor, lacquer, coromandel, teak, Elmwood and many other woods and may be antique, a reproduction or modern. Custom-made furniture should be seasoned or kiln-dried to avoid shrinking in a dry environment. To allow the wood to expand furniture should be produced with tongue-and groove- floating panels.

Teak Furniture

The Latin name for Teak is Tectona grandis, which is offered all over Southeast Asia. Teak is an extremely dense, coarse-grained hardwood, which is well known for its durability and resistance to water, the woodworm and many chemical agents. Today, there are teakwood plantations catering to the furniture industry.

When purchasing Teak furniture:

Oriental Carpets

Beds and Mattresses

Sizes of beds and mattresses are different form those in Europe, Australia and the US, that may imply difficulties buying suitable bed sheets when in Asia or back home. Some shops offer imported brand name beds in standard lengths but oversized beds are difficult to find. Southeast Asian beds are usually shorter and sometimes narrower. Sometimes mattresses in US sizes can be ordered for an additional charge. Never buy bed sheets or linen unless you have measured your bed before.

Electrical Appliances/Computers/Accessories

Do it yourself projects are efficient ways to minimize cost, and to a certain degree, tap into your creative side. Home improvement is just one area in the wide and complex world of Do- it- Yourself.
In a way, home improvement should be done by the homeowners themselves, because the property is theirs, and if something succeeds or fails, the homeowners take full accountability for what happens. How does one begin a do it yourself project? The following is a step by step guide in determining your general path for future DIY projects.
1.	Examine your house- a house that has stood against the elements of nature for at least three years probably has suffered some form of damage. When was the last time that you stopped to inspect whether your house is still safe to live in, or if there is something that you can still do to improve it?
A thorough evaluation of your house and all its parts would definitely give you great ideas for your future DIY project. With you some paper and a pen, list down everything that you think must be repaired, replaced, improved or taken down completely. Be critical of how furniture and electrical wires are placed in your house.
After making your list, start sifting through them. What is it that interests you at the moment? Do you wish to make a new gate made purely of wood, and coated with varnish? Do you think that old door needs sprucing up? Whatever you might choose to do, remember that you have to take into consideration time and budget constraints.
2.	Plan first, and plan well- do not commit the mistake of not being able to plan before you try your hand in DIY home improvement. Any project, executed without a clear plan in mind is bound to either fail or finish unsuccessfully.
How does one begin a work plan for a DIY project? First identify what needs to be done. Make a list of the things that have to be done prior to the DIY project. Then proceed to make a list of the things that you need to do. This includes even the smallest of implements in the DIY project, like nails and paint.
After determining the materials needed for the DIY project, begin to compute how much all this would cost. A good and reliable computation should not be based on estimates alone. If you can, make the computation when you’re at the hardware store.
If something seems to be too expensive, then try to find an alternative brand, or if it’s not possible to do this, try to find an alternative, material to replace that which you cannot acquire due to cost, a good example will be thinner gauge plywood for sidings and non load bearing structures.
3.	Timeframe- never forget to make a timeframe for a particular DIY project. Failure to do so might mean the project might take too long to finish, or in some instances, it might not be completed at all. A timeframe would tell you what to do and what to complete in a day.

All over the United States of America, there are people in millions checking places to buy a home. People are planning this either as a future buy or a current option. The past years have seen lower interest rates making it very affordable for people to go about purchasing a house. If you stop a while to give a thought, you would realize that buying a house is a lot better than renting an apartment or any property for that matter.
So when you go about your house buying plan, you would need to have enough money for all closing costs and down payment. Your down payment would be approximately 15% of your property value or the home value; whichever comes lower. As to be towards the safer end, you can keep the figure up to 20%. This is because if you think it is not possible for you to put down for that amount you could later end up paying higher installments and interest rates to mortgage companies, unknowingly.
Most of the times, the closing prices would run around 5% of the total property price. Always ensure to get an estimate before you pan to purchase. Even though any estimate never is the exact price, it would at least come closer to one. One tip would be apparent and that is to have enough money than you are told, just to ascertain you are safe. Having more than enough is always better than not having enough.
When you are aware about the money you can afford, it is the right time to go for a home purchase. You should also be fully willing to be glued to your plan. Your mortgage payment after you purchase your house should not go beyond 25% of your actual monthly income. Even in case your lender suggests of higher payments, make sure not to divert from your estimate and arrangement.
You need to know that there always is higher expenditure for your house than alone the mortgage payments. The expenditure would start from utility bill payments, property taxes, homeowner’s insurance and other maintenance costs. Caring and owning a house or any property needs a good amount of responsibility. If it is your first experience to own a house, then you would take a longer time to get used to it.
Always check your credit reports for any errors before having all the applications filled. You may start to think this is not required; however one can very well get some error on his credit report and even fail to realize it. If such errors on credit reports happen, your interest rates could go sky high resulting in higher payments from your side. Any error for that matter would decrease your score in credit rating bringing you in a much higher interest bracket than you factually ought to be. This would undoubtedly fetch you higher overall expense for the house. Hence make sure to know the credit details before approaching any lender.
If you cross check your reports as early as possible, you would have more than enough time to fix the issues and get the right entry on the track. Restructuring your credit scores can take time; sometimes even years. Give yourself plenty of time to fix matters on credit.
Ascertain to be fully committed when you are towards a home purchase. Consider your credit factor and obtain the best of all deals possible. This would also assist you in finding better interest rates too. In case of bad credit, you would simply pay off higher than ever expected. Save your money by fixing all the credit related troubles so that you buy the home you desire, with a minimal interest rate.

Nothing is more important to us than the safety and security of our families and our homes. It would be nice to think that we could always be around to keep an eye on things, but even if we had eyes in the backs of our heads we simply could not keep constant tabs on our loved ones and our home without some help. That is why a hidden home security camera is such a valuable asset.
A hidden home security camera has many valuable applications. A hidden home security camera can help secure your possessions in ways that a visible camera can not. While a visible camera may deter some thieves, others might disable the camera before robbing you of your possessions. Sadly, this scenario would leave you robbed and without an opportunity to catch and prosecute the thieves. A hidden home security camera is likely to give you the best opportunity to identify the guilty party and recover your property before it is too late.
A hidden home security camera can also help you solve acts of crime or vandalism that have already occurred. Sadly it is not uncommon for home owners to have recurring problems such as vandalism, trespassing, or even peeping toms. A hidden home security camera will not only help a home owner find the culprit, but the video tape can provide invaluable evidence for law enforcement.
A hidden home security camera has obvious uses when trying to secure our homes from strangers and intruders, but a hidden home security camera can also help protect us from people we know as well. A popular use for hidden home security cameras is to use them to monitor people who work in our homes such as nannies, housekeepers, or contractors. While it would be nice if we could have unconditional trust for people who we invite to work in our homes, the reality is that even a thorough background check is not enough to guarantee professional and legal conduct of our in-home employees. A hidden home security camera provides an additional layer of security and peace of mind when we hire someone to work in our homes.
A hidden home security camera also helps protect our families from things far more benign than intruders or unethical employees. A hidden home security camera is the perfect companion in a baby’s nursery. A hidden home security camera is an anxious new parent’s best friend because it gives them the freedom to take care of important tasks while still keeping a watchful eye on the new baby.
Today’s hidden home security cameras come in all shapes and sizes, and can even allow you to monitor your home from a remote location using the internet. From securing your home from strangers, to protecting your precious newborn, hidden home security cameras have a myriad of applications that can help nearly any homeowner add a new layer of security to their home, possessions, and loved ones.

Today you’ll find that there are many great opportunities out there to make money working from home. However, along with some great opportunities, you’ll find that there are many scams out there as well. While the opportunity to make money online is indeed a great one, you will find that it’s important to be very careful so you don’t get caught up in a scam yourself, which can be very costly. So, if you want to make sure that you can avoid a scam, here are a few excellent tips that can help you to make sure you don’t fall prey to a scam.
Ask Plenty of Questions
First of all, before you even get involved in a work at home opportunity, it’s very important that you ask plenty of questions. You want to know everything that you can about the opportunity before you get involved in it. Ask about how much it’s going to cost, how it all works, and what you are going to have to do in order to be successful. This is extremely important if you are going to avoid a scam. If your questions are not answered, then you may want to just avoid the opportunity altogether to avoid getting caught up in a nasty scam that ends up costing you.
Avoid Claims that are Exaggerated
Another important tip to keep in mind when looking for opportunities to make money work from home, is to avoid claims that are exaggerated. Usually you will find that if the offer sounds like it is too good to be true, then more than likely it is going to be. If the earning potential sounds huge and easy, think again. Remember, making money from home is going to take work. So, if it all sounds to easy or like a get rich quick scheme, then you’ll definitely want to avoid it altogether. Take a look at the claims carefully. If they don’t really sound true, then you’ll want to choose a different opportunity to make money at home.
Look for Contact Information
When you are investigating a work at home opportunity, take a closer look at their website to see if they offer you any contact information. Look for an address and a phone number. If there is no contact information offered, then there is a good chance that you are looking at a scam. Some opportunities may only offer an email address as well, and they can be suspicious as well. If you have a problem, you want to be able to get in contact with the company, so ensure that there is contact information offered before you get involved.
Check the Company Out with the Better Business Bureau
The Better Business Bureau is a great place to look for information on companies when you are looking for a good work at home opportunity. You’ll be able to find out if the company offering the job has any complaints against them or not. This can be important information to you when you are trying to avoid a scam. So, make sure that you take a look with the Better Business Bureau before you make up your mind on a work at home opportunity.

How is home design related to home security?

Some homeowners need more security than others. This is especially true for those who live in high-risk areas or those who live in homes that have not been security-proofed.

Every home should be constructed with security in mind. Security here means safety from possible intruders and from catastrophic events like fire and even robbery or break ins.

While there are homes that are really in need of security because of their locations, there are homes that require security because of their designs. These are homes that probably look good, made of glass which gives outsiders a good view of the goings on inside the home.

There are home designs that are aesthetically good but are the worse designs in terms of home security. A person who is having his home designed or constructed should consult a security expert before installing materials or home features that may put their lives in jeopardy.

Home security should be planned and installed as early as during the construction phase of the home. The engineers and the architects would do well to incorporate home security designs when planning the home and even when constructing it to make sure that the family can transfer and live in the home with their security already in place.

One of the home security measures that can already be incorporated in the home design is the alarm system of the whole house. The alarm system consists of wires, infrared rays which can be installed to make them look like regular fixtures of the home.

Of course, it would always be better to give all possible intruders a warning that this house is highly protected to make them think twice and perhaps change their minds before attempting to break in. However, a home security system would also be very valuable if possible intruders decide to break in and then find themselves in the middle of a loud shrill directly connected to the local police or security agents.

For people who aren’t able to incorporate home security fixtures to their home design, there are security lighting fixtures that can be installed in an already completed home. These lighting fixtures serve as home security because when set, they can easily be turned on to light up when an intruder passes by a certain radius.

There are also alarms and automatic door locks that can be installed easily to secure the home from fire, intruders and unexpected guests.

Every homeowner should invest in a quality and dependable home security fixture and incorporate this in his home design to avoid the home security fixtures from sticking out like a sore thumb.
